On a mostly overcast Saturday in Southern Oregon, 20 players tested their skill in the first of three Oregon Amateur Championship qualifiers.With half the field earning their way into the Oregon Amateur Championship at Tualatin Country club on June 18th-23rd, this qualifier was ripe with stiff competition.

HALF MOON BAY, May 21, 2012 – Two teenagers “Stoll” the show at the U.S. Women’s Open Sectional Qualifying at Half Moon Bay GL on Monday. Gigi Stoll a 15 year-old from Beaverton, Ore. shot the low 36-hole score, posting a 2-under par 142 and she was closely followed by 14 year-old Hannah O’Sullivan of Cupertino, who finished alone in second at 1-under par 143.

Day 2 of the 6^th Oregon Women’s Team Championship began very differently from the first day of competition.  Day 1 brought sunny skies and temperate weather.  On the second day, mother nature reminded us who was in control with unforeseen showers in the morning to start the round. 

“We didn’t see this coming, but it’s Oregon. We know the rain is always possible this time of year,” said Nate Swanner, Director of Tournament Operations. “The course held up beautifully to the rain, and the players are ready to play.”

The 7th Annual Oregon Super Senior Championship contested May 9th-10th at Langdon Farms Golf Course in Aurora, Oregon resulted in some great competition with a playoff for the women and mere one-stroke victory in the men's division.

Victoria, B.C. - After the final individual match play competition at the 7^th annual Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA) Cup, Oregon Golf Association (OGA) captured its third title in a row and its fifth overall.

Coming into the day, Oregon was comforted with a 2.5-point lead from its stellar play on day one. Close on their heels was British Columbia Golf, followed by Idaho Golf Association (3.5 points back) and the Washington State Golf Association (4 points back).

The next time you find yourself with a handy excuse at the ready, or you hear someone else trying to justify why they don’t need to post their score, make sure it’s one of the reasons listed here and not something unwarranted like “the clubhouse was closed”, or “I used a mulligan,” or even sillier, “I was playing Winter Rules.”

An 18-hole golf course must be at least 3,000 yards in length, or at least 1,500 yards per 9-holes in order to be posted to your scoring record for a USGA Handicap Index.

Keeping a golf course fresh and interesting for regular players doesn’t necessarily require investing in new tee boxes.  The same result can be accomplished with “Combo Tees” -- using two or more sets of tees to add variety.

The Oregon Golf Association is licensed by the United States Golf Association to exclusively be responsible for the measuring and rating of every regulation length golf course in Oregon & SW Washington.  In 2011, we visited 33 golf courses and published new ratings. 

Slope actually indicates the mathematical slope of a line (rise over run) when graphing scores against a Handicap Index.

This is because the Slope Rating, which takes into account both the scratch and bogey golfer, is only relative to the Course Rating.
