Field Cut in Half as Play Enters Final Day at 2018 Oregon Junior Stroke Play

WOODBURN, Ore. ­­– The Boys (ages 12-18) and Girls (ages 12-18) divisions finished the second round of play on Wednesday at the 21st Oregon Junior Stroke Play Championship, held July 3-5, 2018 at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn, Ore.

After Wednesday’s round, the field was cut in half in preparation for Thursday’s final round. The cut line included the low half of each field, including ties.

Leading the Boys division is Brandon Eyre (Salem, Ore.), who sits at 3-under par after rounds of 69-72 – 141. The leader after the first round, Eyre recovered from a double-bogey on the par-4 14th on Wednesday with a 1-under finish the final four holes.

In second place is Johnny Ward (Lake Oswego, Ore.), the runner-up at last week’s Oregon Junior Amateur. After a 2-under par 70 on Tuesday, Ward shot even par on Wednesday and sits at 142 (-2). Nate Stember (Portland, Ore.), who defeated Ward in last week’s Junior Amateur final, and Nicholas Watts (Springfield, Ore.) are tied for third at 1-under par (143).

The cut line for the Boys division ended up at 159 (+15), with 33 players making the cut.

In the Girls division, Victoria Gailey (Tigard, Ore.) leads by one shot at 5-over par after rounds of 73-76 – 149 (+5). Gailey has been extremely consistent this week, not shooting more than a 38 on one nine. Last week, Gailey advanced to the final of the Oregon Junior Amateur, only to fall in 19 holes to Olivia Loberg.

In second place is Elli Gordon (Dallas, Ore.), who sits at 6-over par (150) after shooting 74-76. In a two-way tied for third, Olivia Venderby (West Linn, Ore.) and Kaylee Wu (Medford, Ore.) both are at 8-over par (152).

The cut line for the Girls division ended up at 162 (+18), with 15 players making the cut.
