Christopher serves as a Bill Bowerman Advisory Staff Member with Nike Golf and has been nominated by Golf Magazine as one of the Top 100 Instructors in America. He was selected by Golf Digest Magazine as one of the top instructors in Oregon (2003-2009), and recognized as the Teacher of the Year in 2003 by the Oregon Chapter PGA, and the Pacific Northwest Section PGA in 2004.
A professional golf instructor and coach since 1988, Christopher has taught in a wide variety of environments, both domestically and abroad. His list of students includes Tour players, professional athletes, CEO’s, top-ranked juniors – and recreational hackers.
Christopher is the PGA Lead Instructor at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, as well as at The KOR Physical Therapy and Athletic Wellness Clinic in Beaverton. The learning and lesson opportunities at Pumpkin Ridge are plentiful - from playing, short game and putting instruction, to high speed video swing analysis. His state-of-the-art sports studio within The KOR (a facility offering physical and massage therapy, acupuncture, and nutrition counseling to complement the golf instructional experience) uses machine-vision high speed video cameras linked to JC Video software, producing crystal clear frame-by-frame and slow motion analysis with immediate playback - the ultimate set up for golf swing instruction
Christopher’s instruction blends cutting edge technology with experience, knowledge, and insight to produce a learning experience that is both effective and enjoyable. Through the use of unique tools and concepts, he is able to expedite the acquisition and changing of processes inherent to improving one’s golf swing – and overall game. His coaching emphasizes the building of pertinent skills for the individual, with a holistic focus: technique, physical and mental preparation and training, and the importance of on-course play, are all a part of his approach to better golf performance. In keeping with this theme, Christopher authored I’ve Got 99 Swing Thoughts but ‘Hit the Ball’ Ain’t One (Crown, 2007) his book that speaks to the benefits of learning and playing golf in faster, less conscious and more instinctive ways. He is also the creator of Better Golf, a science-based audio CD that employs a ‘whole-brain’ learning approach to help players think, act and respond in more optimal ways on the golf course.
In addition to his skills as a learning facilitator and coach, Christopher is the speed golf world record holder, having fired a score of 65 in a little more than 44 minutes while carrying only six clubs at the 2005 Chicago Speed Golf Classic.
