Bill Winter of Beaverton. Ore. wins the men’s title after a final round 3-under par on the 6681 par 71 Langdon Farms Golf Course. The former University of Portland Men’s Golf Coach finished with a 5-under par total 69-68-137, beating out Ty Chambers of Brush Prairie, Wash. by three strokes.

Nick Chianello led the three-day, 54-hole ASU Thunderbird Invitational wire-to-wire to become the first Oregon State men's golfer to win an individual title outright since 2009 after shooting one of the best three-round scores in school history.

Do you winter in Arizona?  Are you now a member of an Arizona golf club or are you thinking of joining one?  If so, we have good news! 

How often have we, as golfers, wondered how the handicap is allocated for each hole on a golf course?  You play a hole that you think is the most difficult hole on a course and it is only the 5^thhandicap hole. Why?

Most everyone also knows that the #1 allocated hole as the one where a higher-handicapped player is most likely to need a stroke as an equalizer, and the hole allocated as handicap-stroke hole #18 as the hole where that player is least likely to need a stroke. But – what’s the process for determining the ranking and who should be involved?

There’s nothing that says that a man can’t play forward, and there is no rule against a woman playing from the Championship tees.

A golf course of standard playing difficulty has a USGA Slope Rating of 113. You might have noticed the mathematical constant of 113 as part of the formula for calculating a USGA Handicap Index.  But what does it mean? 

Over time, obstacles change on every golf course. Trees grow bigger, rough height changes, green speeds fluctuate. Mowing patterns change the width of fairways. Ponds are expanded. New tees add or remove yardage...

An 18-hole golf course must be at least 3,000 yards in length, or at least 1,500 yards per 9-holes in order to be posted to your scoring record for a USGA Handicap Index.

Keeping a golf course fresh and interesting for regular players doesn’t necessarily require investing in new tee boxes.  The same result can be accomplished with “Combo Tees” -- using two or more sets of tees to add variety.
