How to Get a Handicap

Find A Club

The OGA, aside from being the governing body for the sport in Oregon & SW Washington, is first and foremost an association of member based clubs. Interestingly, we are not an association of courses.  For you, this means that presently, only members of those member clubs are OGA members.

Many people are confused into thinking that only private golf courses have  clubs…but in fact, there are 3 types of clubs.  A club is defined as any group of 10 or more people that play golf together on a regular basis, operate under a set of bylaws and elect officers.  Regular clubs are those groups that are based at a green grass regulation facility.  For instance, there are five different clubs that are based at RedTail Golf Course in Beaverton.  Then there are Associate Clubs that are not affiliated with a specific course.  We have church groups (Walker Road Golf Club), businesses (Nike Golf Club, Hewlett Packard has a club in Corvallis and in Vancouver), Social Groups (Bergfreunde Golf Club), par-3 courses (FLOG – Federated Lake Oswego Golfers at Oswego Municipal)…even a restaurant (The Porterhouse Golf Club on 99E in Milwaukie).  Finally there is the Type-3 Internet based club (the only one we recognize is the GolfNow Players Club).

So the decision is all yours.  You can check out the clubs that are based at your favorite golf course(s), find an Associate Club or join the GolfNow Players Club….or you could even start your own club at your company as long as there are at least 10 members!  A listing of clubs can be found on www.ExploreOregonGolf.com

FYI – In 2009, the portion of your club’s dues that is the OGA fee is $30.  Your benefits will include OGA Membership, USGA Handicap Index computation services, membership in the Pacific Northwest Golf Association, a subscription to Pacific Northwest Golfer, an OGA/USGA Alliance membership, a OGA/USGA Alliance Bag Tag and a Free Round of Golf at the OGA Golf Course.  These benefits will be provided only to those members who have their street address and email address information included in the GHIN Handicapping System and will not be fulfilled until after our deletion deadline on May 1.
