The Evans Caddie Scholarship Program

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be trained and certified as a caddie; caddie as much as possible (minimum of 25 loops a year) while being employed regularly a minimum of two years in golf related areas. Golf related includes employment in the pro shop, club storage or rack room, on the practice range, cart supervision, on the maintenance crew, or as a caddiemaster.
  • Have completed his/her junior year in high school and rank in the upper 25% of his/her class.
  • Demonstrate a financial need.
  • Have outstanding personal character, integrity, and leadership abilities. These qualities must have been proven through extracurricular, civic or community activities.

POLICIES:

  • Residents of Oregon must attend the University of Oregon or Oregon State University depending on curricula requirements.
  • An Evans Scholarship is a four-year scholarship, provided the Scholar maintains sufficient grades.
  • An Evans Scholarship covers tuition and housing (not meals). The foundation pays the full tuition charge directly to the university. A housing allowance is paid each quarter.
  • Residence on the college campus is required.

HOW TO APPLY:

  • Application forms may be obtained from the sponsoring Golf Professional at the course where the applicant has caddied and/or has been employed in golf related areas.
  • Applications must be submitted to the WGA, in Golf Illinois, as soon as possible, after July 1 but before November 1, following completion of the junior year in high school.
  • An applicant must submit, with his/her application, letters of recommendation from the following individuals from the club at which they caddied or have been employed: Club President, Professional, and any other club official who is familiar with an applicant's qualifications and background.
  • An applicant must have his/her high school submit a transcript of grades through the junior year.
  • An applicant must have his/her parents complete and return to the WGA the "Financial Aid Form" which will be sent to each applicant after the application has been received.
  • An applicant must arrange to take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) of the College Entrance Examination Board in spring of the junior year in high school or fall of the senior year. Applicants must request that scores be sent to Evans Scholars Foundation (code 0153), Golf, Illinois. 60029.
