The Role of Golf Associations

State and Regional Golf Associations such as the OGA serve as the regional representatives of the United States Golf Association (USGA), and are commissioned with overseeing and administering the USGA Handicap System®, and are responsible for rating and measuring all golf courses in our territories in accordance with the USGA Course Rating System®.  We are also a local resource on the Rules of Golf® and help govern the Rules of Amateur Status®.

While we first focused on conducting the major amateur golf championships in our territories, we’ve evolved to provide more services to golfers, golf clubs and golf facilities including Handicap Index calculation services, Course Rating and Measuring services, and educational seminars on numerous golf related subjects. Today, we take pride in welcoming all golfers, whether low or high handicappers, public or private club members, competitive or recreational golfers.

In addition to these roles, our associations actively support and fund charitable activities such as the Evans Caddie Scholarship Fund, The First Tee®, The First Green® and Turfgrass Research.

From learning the game, to playing either recreational or competitive golf, participating in championships or in special events, or just bringing friends, family or business associates to our golf courses, a golf event and the relationship with our Associations should bring enriching experiences.
