Canby, Ore. (June 23, 2010) - Medalist and defending champion Amy Beth Simanton of Lake Oswego, Ore. continued to show her mastery of Willamette Valley Country Club as she once again was even par for the day, matching her scoring from the qualifying rounds.  That allowed her to cruise to an early 5 & 4 win over Penny Saenguraporn of Lake Oswego, Ore. at the 101st Oregon Women's Amateur.

Also showing complete control in her match was 13-year old phenom Gigi Stoll of Portland, Ore. who was never down in her match against Brianna Nap of Newberg, Ore. as she advanced to the round of 16 with a 3 & 2 win.

The top half of the bracket also featured a battle of past champions as Kristen Svicarovich of Hillsboro, Ore., the 2007 Champion, came from behind to take out 2008 Champion Kate Hildahl, of Tualatin, Ore. by winning the last three holes to come away with a 2 up victory.  She will next face Oregon State Assistant Coach and 2002 Champions Kailin Downs who romped to a 7 & 6 victory.

The surprises of the day came in the bottom bracket with club favorite Breanne Smith of Canby, Ore. losing 2-down to 17-year old Lindsay Harmon, the 27th seed from Lake Oswego, Ore.  The more experienced Smith graduated last year after playing for Indiana State and she also played in the U.S. Women's Amateur.

Additional upsets came from the ranks of former high school champions.  Reigining OSAA 6A High School Champion Seisha-Lei Telles of Tualatin, Ore. went down to defeat on the 19th hole to Barry University freshman Taylor Babcock of Lake Oswego, Ore., the 23rd seed.  And the 2009 OSAA 6A and Oregon Junior Amateur champion Sharon Shin lost her match to Madaline Jarrett, of Portland Ore. 3 & 2.

Finally, perennial favorite Lara Tennant of Portland, Ore. and Hall-of-Famer Joan Edwards-Powell of Portland, Ore. both easily won their matches 5 & 4 and will face each other tomorrow morning.
