On a balmy, overcast day at Rose City Golf Course, the 22nd Oregon women’s Stroke Play Championship would be decided. The second round of the two-day event would be closely contested in both divisions, as a handful of players had a shot at the title after day one.

Stone Leads Open Division, Two Tied Atop Senior Division After First Day of 22d Women’s Stroke Play

On a beautiful day at Rose City Golf Course in Portland, Ore., the first round of the 23rd Women’s Stroke Play Championship got off to a great start on excellent conditions. This two-day stroke play event consists of two divisions, Open and Senior, with the Open Division playing to a yardage of 5,819 and the Senior playing to 5,582.Gross and Net awards will be given in each Division.

Vaughn & Edwards-Powell Win Stroke Play

Monica Vaughn, 16,  of Reedsport Ore. defied conventional wisdom by shooting 2-under par on the final nine holes to capture the 21st Oregon Women's Stroke Play Championship title by a commanding 6-strokes while Pacific NW Hall of Famer Joan Edwards-Powell claimed her 5th Senior Women's Stroke Play title.

Vaughn Take First Round Lead; Powell Hopes to Repeat at 2011 Women’s Stroke Play

Monica Vaughn, 16,  of Reedsport, Ore., was the only player to shoot under par at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell, Ore. Seven golfers are within 5-strokes of the lead.  Among the seniors, Pacific Northwest Hall of Famer Joan Edwards-Powell hopes to have a repeat of last year's title.
