MEDFORD, Ore. — George Cunningham of Litchfield Park, Ariz., fired a 6-under-par 66 in the second round of the AJGA Junior at Centennial to take a three stroke lead at 9-under-par 135 for the tournament. Jennifer Ha of Calgary, Alberta, also went low for the second consecutive round at Centennial Golf Club with a 5-under-par 67, which also has her ahead of the Girls Division by three strokes at 8-under-par 136.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the AJGA Junior at Centennial is a 54-hole stroke-play competition being held at Centennial Golf Club in Medford, Oregon. The 130-player field features 82 boys and 48 girls, representing 11 states and Canada. The Boys Division is playing the par-72 course from 7,164 yards while the Girls Division is playing from 6,086 yards.

Cunningham's scorecard showed six holes under par, including a stretch of two eagles and a birdie on Nos. 11-13— highlighted by a 30-foot putt for eagle on No. 11. A birdie on the first hole allowed Cunningham to get his round rolling in the right direction and he finished on a strong note with a birdie on his final hole of the day. “I hit my pitch shot to three feet on my last hole,” Cunningham said. “That was my most memorable shot of the day.”

Jake Knapp of Costa Mesa, Calif., who led following the first round, is in second place at 6-under-par 138. John Lee of Los Alamitos, Calif., is tied with Tye Gabriel of Portland, Ore., for third at 5-under-par 135. Rounding out the top five in the Boys Division are Justin Chu of Honolulu, and Preston Wtulich of Rancho Murieta, Calif., at 4-under-par 140.

In the Girls Division, Ha credits her round to steady iron play as she was able to achieve her goal of hitting greens and giving herself chances at birdies. She capitalized on many of those opportunities with seven birdies on the round, including a stretch of three in a row on Nos. 1-3.

“I am going to go out and play my best tomorrow. I'm not going to worry about the other players, and just keeping having fun because I have had so much playing these past two days,” Ha said, who is playing in her first AJGA tournament.

First round leader Ciera Min of Hilo, Hawaii, is in second place at 5-under-par 139. Amy Lee of Brea, Calif., and Catherina Li of Kent, Wash., are tied for third at even-par 144.
