WOMEN'S LEADERBOARD

MEN'S LEADERBOARD

North Plains, Ore. (Wednesday, September 1, 2010) - As the regional representative of the United States Golf Association, the Oregon Golf Association conducted concurrent sectional qualifying for both the U.S. Mid-Amateur and Women's Mid-Amateur Championships at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Ore.

On what started out as a soggy wet morning, five players advanced to the Women's national championship which will be held September 25-30 at Wichita Country Club in Wichita, Kan.

Leading the qualifiers were co-medalists Leslie Folsom of Seattle, Wash. and Sasha Adams, of North Plains Ore. who both managed their way around Pumpkin Ridge's 6,136-yard par-72 Witch Hollow course at 8-over par 40-40-80.

Also qualifying were Kareen Markle of Meridian Idaho, Charisse Spada, of Portland Ore. and Debra Myers, of Seattle Wash.  Spada, however, declined her spot to compete for this year's title, and as a result, a playoff ensued for the final spot between Kathryn Provazek of Mercer Island Wash, and Phara Blair of Tualatin, Ore. with Provazek winning the final spot on the first playoff hole.

Taking medalist honors in the Men's field was Tim Tucker, of Coos Bay, Ore. with a 4-under par 31-37-68 on the 6,885-yard par-72 layout. "I really hit it good on the front, then made the turn and felt like I was just trying to hold on," said Tucker. "I felt like I kind of just limped in."

In fact, Tucker was at 7-under par before making 3 bogeys on his final five holes to finish his round. This will be Tucker's second trip to the national championship.  He qualified in 2007 when it was held on his home course at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore. This year's championship will be held September 25-30 at Atlantic Golf Club in Bridgehampton, NY.

Four others will join Tucker at the national championshio including Joey Hord of Portland, Ore. who birdied the final two holes to finish at 3-under par 35-34-69, 1-stroke behind Tucker, as well as Chris Hudson, of Portland Ore., Jason Wood, of Portland Ore. and Brett Martin, of Phoenix Ariz.

Martin, who finished tied for fifth at even par advanced after winning the first sudden-death playoff hole against Scott Johnsen, of Richland Wash.  Johnsen's consolation was earning the position as first alternate.

A playoff between Eric Fiskum, of Salem Ore. and Mickey Morey, of Lake Oswego, Ore. was also required to determine the second, and final, alternate spot.  Fiskum closed the deal making birdie to Morey's par on the first playoff hole.
