Rules Education

The OGA is a national leader in Rules of Golf Education both through our many programs and the knowledge of our instructors. We are your source for fast, up-to-date answers to the region's Rules of Golf questions. 11/01/11 - 2012-2015 Rules of Golf - Summary of Changes

Last week the USGA and R&A released the revisions to the Rules of Golf that will come into effect on January 1, 2012 as part of their normal four year cycle. In general, these revisions continue the precedent set in 2008 (the last revision) where the Rules are becoming more player friendly and move to uniformity on all parts of the course. What follows is a brief synopsis of the more impactful changes.

09/06/11 - Cantlay Learns The Rules The Hard Way at US Amateur

When Patrick Cantlay's caddie smoothed the sand after his player failed to extract his ball from that same bunker, Cantlay thought he was in breach of Rule 13-4 and, in a demonstration of his respect for the Rules, immediately conceded the hole to Kraft. Like many, he misinterpreted the rule as there was no penalty.
