US Amateur Day 3 - Referee Round of 64 - Short Version

I've learned plenty in my first USGA Championship.  Most notably, I love to referee.  In addition, I was incorrect on the players I would be refereeing when I posted last evening.  I found out this morning that rather than taking out the 11:50 match I had the 12:30 match which included Morgan Hoffman the number 22 ranked amateur in the world.  What a treat.  At one point he made 5 birdies in a row (without any concessions!).  And, after a cursory look at scoreboard before I came back to the room tonight, I think he may have had the best round of the day.  Aldin Choi was Morgan's opponent.  Aldin is a great young player form British Columbia who will be at North Carolina State in the fall but couldn't quite keep up today.  I think there were 14 birdies between the players over the 36 holes.  I'll write up the match on Friday when I get back into the office.  Sorry to make you wait but the days are long and sleep is so very precious.  As Jim Hyler said at the Officials rececption, at National Championships "you must sleep fast."  That I can do and I'm off to bed.

Tomorrow afternoon, I'll be helping referee Jan Kikta as an observer in the 1:25 match in the round of 16.
