OJG Majors Schedule Reaches Midway Point with Central Willamette Junior Championship

Johnny Ward finished 2-under par to win the Boys Open Division and Kyra Ly finished 4-over par to win the Girls Open Division at the Central Willamette Junior Championship. The event was played July 8 at Willamette Valley Country Club, while the second round was held the following day at Arrowhead Golf Club.

Ward, from Lake Oswego, was the only competitor to finish the event under par. He posted a first-round 73, but followed that up with a 68 on Tuesday. Ward (73-68-141) won by three strokes over Danny Hext, from Beaverton, who finished 1-over par (74-70-144).

Ly, from Portland, posted rounds 74 and 73 to finish six strokes ahead of the field. Alexa Udom (Portland) and Emily Song (Beaverton) finished tied for second at 10-over par.

The win was Ly's second in consecutive weeks. She topped the field at last week's Oregon Junior Stroke Play Championship shooting even par through the 54-hole competition played at OGA Golf Course in Woodburn.

The Oregon Junior Golf major tournament schedule continues July 15-18 with a pair of events held in Medford and Klamath Falls. The Southern Oregon Junior Championship is slated for July 15-16 at Rogue Valley Country Club and the Klamath Basin Junior Championship follow that on July 17-18.
