Manager, Tournament Operations

Position:  Manager of Tournament Operations

Status:  Full Time, Exempt

Reports To:  Ultimate Supervisor – OGA Chief Executive Officer; Immediate Supervisor – Director of Tournament Operations

Overview:  Manages the OGA Tour and Women’s Interclub Play programs as well as has direct oversight of the OGA’s network of volunteers; works in collaboration with the Director of Tournament Operations to manage the administration of all of the OGA’s competitions and assists with the on-site operations of OGA Championships and USGA qualifiers; provides support to Oregon Junior Golf and other OGA departments as needed.

The Oregon Golf Association (OGA) – formed in 1924 to conduct the Oregon Amateur Golf Championship which included both men and women, the OGA is a 501(c)(6) non-profit amateur golf association governed by volunteer amateur golfers that make up its Board of Directors and that employs a full-time professional staff of ten people. Today, the OGA has grown into an entity of more than 270 public and private clubs numbering approximately 45,000 members throughout Oregon and SW Washington and is unique in that its membership is comprised of all demographics including men, women, seniors, juniors, and private and public golfers. With a vast array of programs for its members, the OGA provides a USGA Handicap Index for each member through its member clubs, provides education on the Rules of Golf and runs an assortment of competitions, including the running of state championships, USGA qualifiers and other events for all ages and skill levels.

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in the administration of competitions by creating entry forms, entry processing in Tournament Management software, volunteer correspondence, player confirmations, post event follow-up and other administration as assigned
  2. Manage OGA Tour competitions, providing administrative support to subcontracted employees that are onsite at events
  3. Manage Women’s Interclub. Directly responsible for administrative support to regions, divisions, and team captains
  4. Assist with on-site tournament functions at select events including course set-up as well as working with players, volunteers, and host course staff
  5. Assist with creation of scorecards, pairings, score sheets, Notice to Players, and other tournament-related documentation
  6. Assist with updating and maintaining the OGA’s Knuth Net Performance Points System
  7. Assist with administration of OGA Rules educational seminars
  8. Assist with recruitment & training of OGA volunteers and oversee scheduling and organization of annual Spring Volunteer Training Day and Fall Volunteer Appreciation Day; manage weekly scheduling for all tournaments
  9. Create and update Volunteer Manual
  10. Manage frequent communication/newsletters to volunteers
  11. Help maintain website content for Championships, OGA Tour and Women’s Interclub Play programs
  12. Help maintain inventory/supplies for Championships, OGA Tour and Women’s Interclub Play
  13. Create/run/maintain tournament administration software
  14. Perform other duties as assigned by CEO or Director of Tournament Operations



  1. College degree – 2 or 4 years
  2. Background in golf preferred
  3. Self motivated individual, strong work ethic and an enthusiastic team player
  4. Excellent written and verbal skills; ability to communicate effectively and project a professional image when giving and taking information in writing, in person and over the phone
  5. Ability to work unsupervised, work under pressure and meet deadlines
  6. Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  7. Active listening skills and maintains open communication with others to accomplish tasks
  8. Computer literacy with working knowledge of Excel, Tournament Management software and GHIN; use of Microsoft products with Windows operating system in a Microsoft Windows Server/Exchange Server, networked environment.  Exposure to CRM and Adobe products beneficial
  9. Ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks; good time management and problem-prevention skills
  10. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints
  11. Exhibits a professional, business-like appearance and demeanor, including neatness and punctuality
  12. Displays creativity
  13. Working knowledge of Rules of Golf a plus
  14. Ability to travel with some weekend work required


Physical Requirements:

  1. Sitting/Standing/Walking:  Approximately 50% of time working in office setting.  Balance of time spent moving around work areas and at tournament sites & events
  2. Speaking/Hearing:  Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, customers, and others by telephone and in person
  3. Vision:  Ability to effectively use a computer screen and interpret printed materials, memos and other appropriate paperwork
  4. Lifting/Carrying:  Ability to transport up to 50 pounds of files/supplies/equipment
