Tennant Wins Back-to-Back U.S. Senior Women's Amateurs
Lara Tennant won her second consecutive U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur title with a 3&2 victory over Sue Wooster in the match play final Thursday at Cedar Rapids Country Club in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
It was a rematch of the 2018 final where Tennant also topped Wooster 3&2. This was the first time in 58 playings of the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur that both finalists from the previous year met again in the championship match.
Wooster jumped out to a 1 up lead after Tennant faltered with bogey on the second hole. Tennant tied the match with a par on the fourth hole and the match remained level until the par 3 eighth hole when Wooster took double bogey.
Tennant extended her lead to 3 up through 11 holes after winning holes No. 10 and 11.
Wooster cut the lead to 2 up with a par on the 13th hole, but Tennant sealed the match with a par on No. 16.
A score of par won all seven holes between the two competitors. The players halved nine of the 16 holes in the competition.
With the victory, Tennant earns a 10-year exemption and possession of the championship trophy for one year. She is also exempt into the 2020 U.S. Senior Women’s open in addition to various other exemptions.
