Women's Semifinals, Men's Quarterfinals and Semifinals Determined at 107th Oregon Amateur Championship

BLACK BUTTE RANCH, ORE. – The final four women and final eight men vying for a state title are now set for semifinal and quarterfinal matches, respectively, at the 107th Oregon Amateur Championship, held June 20-25 at Black Butte Ranch – Glaze Meadow in Black Butte Ranch, Ore.

Women’s quarterfinal matches were held Thursday, as the remaining four players will play semifinal matches on Friday. Those matches will take place at 8:45 AM and 8:54 AM.

The men’s field began the day at 32 players and is now down to eight. Both round-of-32 and round-of-16 matches were held on Friday. The men’s quarterfinals will begin with the first group teeing off at 8 AM, and the final pairing going off the first tee at 8:27 AM. The semifinals will also take place Friday, in the afternoon. Those matches will occur at 1:20 PM and 1:29 PM.

The women’s quarterfinals began with two-time defending champion, Gigi Stoll (Tigard, Ore.), advancing to the semifinals after defeating Sarah Archuleta (West Linn, Ore.) 5 and 4. Stoll will play Concordia University golfer and No. 12 seed Lynsie Furuya (Vancouver, Wash.), who upset Haley Nist (Meridian, Idaho) after 19 holes. Stoll and Furuya will tee off at 8:45 AM.

The other semifinal will pit last year’s stroke play qualifying medalist and match play runner-up, Madison Odiorne (Bend, Ore.), against Portland State golfer Krissy Peterson (Canby, Ore.). Odiorne never trailed against Haleigh Krause (Eugene, Ore.), winning 3 and 2. Peterson also never trailed in her match, beating Hannah Swanson (Forest Grove, Ore.) 4 and 3. Odiorne, the No. 2 seed, and Peterson, the No. 6 seed, will play in the second semifinal at 8:54 AM tomorrow.

After the round-of-32 matches were complete Thursday morning, the men’s field was shook up as the first round-of-16 match featured No. 1 seed Sulman Raza (Eugene, Ore.) falling to Alex Wrenn (Lake Oswego, Ore.). Wrenn, who plays golf at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, Calif., was 2-down with five holes to play, but then won holes 14-16, eventually holding on for a 1-up win against Raza.

Wrenn, the 16th seed, will play another University of Oregon golfer in the quarterfinals in Zach Foushee (West Linn, Ore.). The No. 24 seed, Foushee defeated last year’s Oregon Junior Amateur champion, Bryce Wortman (Klamath Falls, Ore.), 2 and 1 in an up-and-down match.

Jaime Delgado (Hillsboro, Ore.), the 36th seed, upset 4th seeded Justin Kadin (Bend, Ore.) in the round-of-32, then went on to defeat Kevin Johnson (Portland, Ore.) 1-up to advance to the quarterfinals. He’ll play the No. 5 seed Conner Barr (Beaverton, Ore), who defeated Nigel Lett (Beaverton, Ore.) 6 and 5 in the round-of-16.

In the third quarterfinal, No. 34 seed Brian Humphreys (Washougal, Wash.) will play No. 42 seed Max Murai (Beaverton, Ore.) Humphreys upset the No. 2 seed, Kevin Murphy (Rogue River, Ore.), 5 and 3 in the round-of-32 and then defeated Jake Quast (Medford, Ore.) 2 and 1. Murai beat Greg Chianello (Portland, Ore.) 2 and 1 in the round-of-16.

The final quarterfinal will pit the 14th seed Montana Frame (Reedsport, Ore.) against the No. 27 seed Jeff Ward (Bend, Ore.). Frame defeated UCLA’s Cole Madey (West Linn, Ore.) in the round-of-16, winning 2-up, while Ward defeated 6th-seeded Hogan Arey (Corvallis, Ore.) in the round-of-32 and battled Nicholas Huff (Ridgefield, Wash.) in the round-of-16, ultimately winning the 18th hole and the match 1-up.
